Guide
A storage guide for people who would rather decide once.
This guide is the long way around the menu. It is for someone who knows they need space and does not yet know which product. It is not a second copy of the storage units page, which remains the commercial URL for renting a unit.
Start from the object and the season
Write the object in one sentence and the months it must be stored. A sofa from November to March in Winnipeg is a heat question. The same sofa for three weeks in a Toronto move is an access and stairs question. A car from the first lasting frost is a vehicle-storage question. A container during a kitchen renovation is a portable-storage question. If you cannot finish the sentence, you are not ready to compare prices.
Then the building you already have
Walk-ups, towers with freight elevators, houses with a single garage, and strata lockers produce different correct answers. The locker page and the portable page exist because of that. A city guide helps when the city’s housing is the constraint, as it is in Vancouver and Toronto, or when the weather is the constraint, as it is in Edmonton and Winnipeg.
Money, after the fit
The rentals page explains invoices. Read it after you know the type and the size. A cheap unit of the wrong type is not a saving. A climate premium on plastic bins of tools is not a virtue. Match the spend to the goods that can be ruined.
Access and risk
Decide how often you will visit and at what hour. Read the 24-hour page only if the hour is a real constraint. Read the security notes before you treat a gate as an insurance policy. Keep an inventory. Tell someone else where the key is.
What this guide will not do
It will not rank facilities, invent availability, or promise a price. It will point you at one next page. If you already know the type, leave this essay and open that page. If you do not, send an enquiry that admits what you have not decided, and expect a question back rather than a reserved door.
